In this week's Auspice Maria, Bishop Ruggieri reflects on the many reasons for being thankful for the country we live in and for being able to live by the compass of Catholicism, even amidst signs of that freedom being challenged. He highlights thoughts from Target Africa, a book about how some foundations are imposing their own "social improvement," including abortion, on some African countries. In addition, he points to St. Pope John Paul II's Gospel of Life encyclical about religious freedom and how it relates to our government, in opposition, frequently separating freedom from truth. His final observance as food for thought: "I am thankful for my Catholic faith and for being able to live out my Catholic faith, even though there are efforts to undermine it and my religious freedom."
