The Catholic Cemetery is a sacred place, not only because of its blessing or consecration, but also by the sacred function that it performs on behalf of the entire Christian Community.
It holds the bodies, once temples of the Holy Spirit, until the Lord comes again in glory. It is a place where prayer and liturgy are celebrated. It serves as a symbol of faith in the resurrrection of the body by an extended community of believers, a community unbroken by death.
Christians are citizens of two cities: heaven and earth. The Catholic Cemetery serves the Church by spanning the kingdom now present and the kingdom yet to come.
POLICIES
Each grave is intended for one full-body burial. Cremains of a second individual may be buried in a single grave at an additional charge. Cremains of only one individual may be buried in each grave in the Cremains Garden at Coughlin Cemetery.
The design of all monuments must be approved by cemetery management prior to installation. Applications are available in the Parish Office.
Monuments are limited to 32 inches in width on a single grave. For multiple adjacent graves, the monument width may be 32 inches times the number of graves to be spanned.
Monuments in the Cremains Garden are limited to the flat "military" style stone memorial.
Shrubbery may not be planted in the Cemeteries. Existing shrubbery will be removed as it becomes overgrown and will not be allowed to be replaced.
Non-Catholics may be buried in St. James or Coughlin Cemeteries.
Pets may not be buried in the Cemeteries.
If you wish to transfer ownership of burial rights or set up a burial plot, please contact Kevin Bailey at kfb723@verizon.net.
