Mass is celebrated at St. Mary of the Isles on Islesboro from July through August, at 9:00am on Saturdays.
In 1901, due to the increasing number of household staffs of the Catholic faith, a chapel was commissioned to be built on Islesboro. This project would ultimately become St. Mary of the Isles. Rev. John E. Kealey spearheaded the project and celebrated the first Mass at St. Mary of the Isles on Sunday, August 4th, 1901. Bishop O’Connell conducted the dedication ceremony on August 20th of the same year. Noted for its medieval style and striking dark interior, St. Mary of the Isles has remained the center of Islesboro’s Catholic community, providing full Sunday Masses throughout the Summer.
